RemediumOne and Combination Pill studies
Drug therapy can be divided in to two categories as monotherapy and combination therapy. In monotherapy, only one drug is used to treat a single disease. In combination therapy, more than one drug is used to treat a single condition.
Combination therapy is used to treat diseases like cancers, tuberculosis, bacterial infections, and HIV/AIDS. Even though combination therapy seems costlier than monotherapy there are many advantages of using combination therapy. They are lower tendency for development of resistance, lower treatment failure rate, lower fatality ratios, and fewer side effects.
Current hypertension treatment involve monotherapy with treatment modification at multiple follow up visits. Recently many studies are done on efficacy of monotherapy versus combination therapy to control hypertension. These studies have suggested that combination therapy is more suitable to control hypertension than monotherapy (https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/pharmacology-toxicology-and-pharmaceutical-science/monotherapy).
RemediumOne has successfully conducted a study to control high blood pressure using a combination pill and a second stage of the same trail will be initiated soon in Sri Lanka. We are delighted that more than 800 participants were made contribution to combination tiple pill hypertension program in Sri Lanka.
